How it started
Drawing first, then framing
Dennis O'Dowd started drawing and sculpting at a young age. Making art led him to the work of presenting it, and he moved into matting and framing, opening the shop in Alamosa. He is a professional artist with decades at the bench, and his creative side has carried him into designing and building landscapes as well.
Dennis and his wife, Cheryl, share a common interest in art, and it has passed to their children. Their son, Lance, showed real talent at a very young age and went on to earn a BFA from Adams State University. Today he works in woodworking, bronze and mixed media. Their daughter, Danielle, is a photographer, and many customers meet her at the counter helping choose frames and mats.
That mix is what makes the shop different. The people framing your piece also draw, sculpt, carve and photograph, so they look at your art the way an artist would. Alongside framing, the family takes on custom drawings, woodwork, barn doors, welding, sculpture, pottery and ceramics, and limited edition prints.
Most of the business comes by word of mouth, and the goal has not changed: a happy customer who recommends the shop to friends. Satisfaction is a top priority. Just tell the family what you need, and they will help make it happen.
